The Partridge, the Monkey, and the Elephant

“For they who honour age.”—This story was told by the Master whilst on his way to Savatthi, about the way in which the Elder Sariputta was kept out of a night’s lodging.

    “Ye vuḍḍhamapacāyanti,

    Those people who honor the elder

  6. 1.2

    narā dhammassa kovidā;

    are experts in the teaching;

    Diṭṭheva dhamme pāsaṁsā,

    praised in this life,

  8. 1.4

    samparāye ca suggatī”ti.

    they’re destined for happiness in lives to come.
