Senior mendicants with strong defilements are disliked.

ไม่เป็นที่พอใจ ไม่เป็นที่เคารพ และไม่เป็นที่ยกย่องของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ ธรรม ๕ ประการ เป็นไฉน คือ ภิกษุผู้เถระย่อมกำหนัดในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความกำหนัด ๑ ย่อมขัดเคืองใน สิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความขัดเคือง ๑ ย่อมหลงในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความหลง ๑ ย่อมโกรธใน สิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความโกรธ ๑ ย่อมมัวเมาในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความมัวเมา ๑ ดูกรภิกษุ ทั้งหลายภิกษุผู้เถระประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล ย่อมไม่เป็นที่รัก ไม่เป็นที่พอใจไม่ เป็นที่เคารพ และไม่เป็นที่ยกย่องของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ ฯ

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้เป็นเถระประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ ย่อมเป็นที่รัก เป็นที่พอใจ

เป็นที่เคารพ และเป็นที่ยกย่องของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ธรรม ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ภิกษุผู้เถระ ย่อมไม่กำหนัดในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความกำหนัด ๑ ย่อมไม่ขัดเคืองในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความ ขัดเคือง ๑ ย่อมไม่หลงในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความหลง ๑ ย่อมไม่โกรธในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่ง ความโกรธ ๑ ย่อมไม่มัวเมาในสิ่งอันเป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความมัวเมา ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลายภิกษุผู้เถระ ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล ย่อมเป็นที่รัก เป็นที่พอใจ เป็นที่เคารพ และเป็นที่ยกย่อง ของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ ฯ

    “Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu sabrahmacārīnaṁ appiyo ca hoti amanāpo ca agaru ca abhāvanīyo ca.

    “Mendicants, a senior mendicant with five qualities is disliked and disagreeable to their spiritual companions, not respected or admired.

    Rajanīye rajjati, dussanīye dussati, mohanīye muyhati, kuppanīye kuppati, madanīye majjati—

    They desire the desirable, they hate the hateful, they’re deluded by the delusory, they’re annoyed by the annoying, and they’re intoxicated by the intoxicating.

    imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu sabrahmacārīnaṁ appiyo ca hoti amanāpo ca agaru ca abhāvanīyo ca.
