Anusotasutta

A person who goes with the stream; a person who goes against the stream; a stable person; and one who has crossed over.

ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง

เล่ม ๒๑ · หน้า ๕ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคล ๔ จำพวกนี้ มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลก ๔ จำพวกเป็นไฉน คือ บุคคลผู้ไปตามกระแส ๑ บุคคลผู้ไปทวนกระแส ๑ บุคคลผู้มีตนตั้งอยู่แล้ว ๑ บุคคลผู้เป็น พราหมณ์ ข้ามถึงฝั่งตั้งอยู่บนบก ๑ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็บุคคลผู้ไปตามกระแสเป็นไฉน บุคคล บางคนในโลกนี้ ย่อมเสพกามทั้งหลาย และย่อมกระทำกรรมอันเป็นบาป นี้เราเรียกว่าบุคคลผู้ไป ตามกระแส ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็บุคคลผู้ไปทวนกระแสเป็นไฉน บุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ ย่อม ไม่เสพกาม และย่อมไม่กระทำกรรมอันเป็นบาป แม้มีหน้านองด้วยน้ำตา ร้องไห้อยู่ เพราะ ประกอบด้วยทุกข์บ้าง เพราะประกอบด้วยโทมนัสบ้าง ก็ประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ให้บริสุทธิ์ บริบูรณ์ได้ นี้เราเรียกว่าบุคคลผู้ไปทวนกระแส ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็บุคคลผู้มีตนตั้งอยู่แล้วเป็นไฉน บุคคล บางคนในโลกนี้ เป็นผู้ผุดขึ้นเกิด ปรินิพพานในภพนั้น มีอันไม่กลับมาจากโลกนั้นเป็นธรรมดา

เพราะโอรัมภาคิยสังโยชน์ ๕ สิ้นไป นี้เราเรียกว่าบุคคลผู้มีตนตั้งอยู่แล้ว ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็บุคคล ผู้เป็นพราหมณ์ข้ามถึงฝั่งตั้งอยู่บนบกเป็นไฉน บุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ กระทำให้แจ้งซึ่ง เจโตวิมุติ ปัญญาวิมุติอันหาอาสวะมิได้ เพราะอาสวะทั้งหลายสิ้นไป ด้วยปัญญาอันยิ่งเองในปัจจุบันเข้าถึง อยู่ นี้เราเรียกว่าบุคคลผู้เป็นพราหมณ์ข้ามถึงฝั่งตั้งอยู่บนบก ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคล ๔ จำพวกนี้แล มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลก ฯ ชนเหล่าใดในโลกนี้ ไม่สำรวมในกามทั้งหลาย ยังไม่

ปราศจากราคะ มีปรกติบริโภคกาม ชนเหล่านั้นแล ถูก ตัณหาครอบงำแล้ว เข้าถึงชาติและชราบ่อยๆ ชื่อว่าไป ตามกระแส เพราะฉะนั้น ธีรชนในโลกนี้ เป็นผู้มีสติ ตั้งมั่นแล้วไม่เสพกาม และไม่ทำกรรมอันเป็นบาป แม้ ประกอบด้วยทุกข์ก็ ละกามได้ นักปราชญ์ทั้งหลายเรียก บุคคลนั้นว่าไปทวน กระแส นรชนใดแล ละกิเลส ๕ ประการเสียได้ เป็น ผู้มีการศึกษาบริบูรณ์ มีความไม่เสื่อม เป็นธรรมดา ถึงความ เป็นผู้ชำนาญในจิต มีอินทรีย์ตั้งมั่น แล้ว นรชนนั้นแล นักปราชญ์ทั้งหลายเรียกว่าผู้มีตนตั้ง

    “Cattārome, bhikkhave, puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ.

    “These four individuals are found in the world.

    Katame cattāro?

    What four?

  6. 1.3

    Anusotagāmī puggalo, paṭisotagāmī puggalo, ṭhitatto puggalo, tiṇṇo pāraṅgato thale tiṭṭhati brāhmaṇo.

    An individual who goes with the stream; an individual who goes against the stream; a steadfast individual; and a brahmin who has crossed over, gone to the far shore, and stands on solid ground.

    And who is the individual who goes with the stream?

  8. 1.5

    Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco puggalo kāme ca paṭisevati, pāpañca kammaṁ karoti.

    It’s an individual who indulges in sensual pleasures and does bad deeds.

    Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, anusotagāmī puggalo.

    This is called an individual who goes with the stream.

    Katamo ca, bhikkhave, paṭisotagāmī puggalo?

    And who is the individual who goes against the stream?

  11. 2.2

    Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco puggalo kāme ca nappaṭisevati, pāpañca kammaṁ na karoti, sahāpi dukkhena sahāpi domanassena assumukhopi rudamāno paripuṇṇaṁ parisuddhaṁ brahmacariyaṁ carati.

    It’s an individual who doesn’t indulge in sensual pleasures or do bad deeds. They live the full and pure spiritual life in pain and sadness, weeping, with tearful faces.

    Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, paṭisotagāmī puggalo.

    This is called an individual who goes against the stream.

    Katamo ca, bhikkhave, ṭhitatto puggalo?

    And who is the steadfast individual?

  14. 3.2

    Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco puggalo pañcannaṁ orambhāgiyānaṁ saṁyojanānaṁ parikkhayā opapātiko hoti, tattha parinibbāyī, anāvattidhammo tasmā lokā.

    It’s an individual who, with the ending of the five lower fetters, is reborn spontaneously. They’re extinguished there, and are not liable to return from that world.

    Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, ṭhitatto puggalo.

    This is called a steadfast individual.

    Katamo ca, bhikkhave, puggalo tiṇṇo pāraṅgato thale tiṭṭhati brāhmaṇo?

    And who is a brahmin who has crossed over, gone to the far shore, and stands on solid ground?

    Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco puggalo āsavānaṁ khayā anāsavaṁ cetovimuttiṁ paññāvimuttiṁ diṭṭheva dhamme sayaṁ abhiññā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharati.

    It’s an individual who realizes the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom. And they live having realized it with their own insight in this very life due to the ending of defilements.

    Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, puggalo tiṇṇo pāraṅgato thale tiṭṭhati brāhmaṇo.

    This is called a brahmin who has crossed over, gone to the far shore, and stands on solid ground.

  19. 4.4

    Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasminti.

    These are the four individuals found in the world.

  20. 5.1

    Ye keci kāmesu asaññatā janā,

    All those people with unbridled sensuality,

  21. 5.2

    Avītarāgā idha kāmabhogino;

    not free of lust, enjoying sensual pleasures in this life:

  22. 5.3

    Punappunaṁ jātijarūpagāmi te,

    again and again, they return to birth and old age;

  23. 5.4

    Taṇhādhipannā anusotagāmino.

    those who go with the stream are sunk in craving.

  24. 6.1

    Tasmā hi dhīro idhupaṭṭhitassatī,

    So the attentive in this life,
    with mindfulness established,

  25. 6.2

    Kāme ca pāpe ca asevamāno;

    don’t take part in sensual pleasures and bad deeds.

  26. 6.3

    Sahāpi dukkhena jaheyya kāme,

    In pain they’d give up sensual pleasures:

  27. 6.4

    Paṭisotagāmīti tamāhu puggalaṁ.

    they call that individual
    ‘one who goes against the stream’.

  28. 7.1

    Yo ve kilesāni pahāya pañca,

    Someone who’s given up five corruptions,

  29. 7.2

    Paripuṇṇasekho aparihānadhammo;

    a perfect trainee, not liable to decline,

  30. 7.3

    Cetovasippatto samāhitindriyo,

    who’s mastered their mind,
    with faculties immersed in samādhi,

  31. 7.4

    Sa ve ṭhitattoti naro pavuccati.

    that man is called ‘steadfast’.

  32. 8.1

    Paroparā yassa samecca dhammā,

    The sage who has comprehended all things,
    high and low,

  33. 8.2

    Vidhūpitā atthagatā na santi;

    cleared them and ended them, so they are no more;

  34. 8.3

    Sa ve muni vusitabrahmacariyo,

    they’ve completed the spiritual journey
    and gone to the end of the world,

  35. 8.4

    Lokantagū pāragatoti vuccatī”ti.

    they’re called ‘one who has gone beyond’.”
